PITCHING
Practice pitching a sequence and presenting your portfolio.
PERSONAL PROJECT
Develop a scene, a character, a personal project or a studio pitch.
CAREER GUIDANCE
Simulating an interview, transitioning from another discipline, stepping into a leadership role.
WHAT A SESSION IS LIKE
Bring me what you are working on. We might go through a sequence shot by shot, draw over your boards, move the camera, cut something that is not helping, or look at a moment from a completely different point of view.
I will keep coming back to the questions that really matter: Whose story is this? What does the audience need to understand? What is the character thinking and feeling? What can we show instead of explain? What can we take away? Where does the camera need to be to keep us with the character?
And if we are working on your portfolio: what does this piece tell me about YOU as a storyteller?
You do not need polished work. Rough boards, thumbnails and sequences you are stuck on are often the most useful things to bring.
I have mentored artists from students to experienced professionals, including story artists at Pixar and Netflix. At Pixar, I was also part of the recruiting team for the Story Internship Program, where I taught and mentored the story interns.
